1959,is one of the first universities that have been
admitted into the “211 Project”, a state sponsored educational
program offering prioritized support to 100 institutions of higher
learning in China to meet the 21st century challenges. The
university was authorized by the Ministry of Education as one of the
first batch of universities to set up positions for specially
invited professors in “Cheung Kong Scholars Program” and so far
positions have been set up in 11 disciplines, which all have strong
overall strength, good facilities and sufficient funds for

II. Requirements for the positions
Candidates for specially invited
professors
experience of front-line scientific research and
teaching work;
aged under 45 years old ( the ceiling is 55 for those
exceptionally excellent applicants);
doctoral degree;
competent at delivering kernel lectures of the engaged
discipline;
remarkable academic attainments and some internationally
recognized achievements in scientific research;
original and novel plan for the development of the
engaged department and its academic research;
a competent team leader, capable of leading the
discipline to catch up with or keep up with or surpass the world’s
advanced level in the major research areas;
teamwork and cooperation, good at organization,
management and leadership.
Candidates for part-time professors
experience of front-line scientific research and
teaching work abroad;
aged under 45 years old ( the ceiling is 55 for those

III. Vacancies to be
filled
For each discipline above, 1 or 2 vacancies for
specially invited professor(s) and 1 for part-time professor, all
with a 3-to-5-year engagement.
IV. Working and living conditions
and remuneration
for specially invited professors:
research funds of 300,000 (RMB) besides an annual
allowance of 100,000 (RMB);
option of choosing two working assistants;
offices and laboratories with modern equipment and
facilities;
same salaries, allowance and other material benefits as
“the specially invited professors” on the staff of the
university;
a five-room apartment and a settling-in allowance of
40,000 (RMB);
proper arrangements for the spouse and children of the
successful candidate.
for part-time professors:
While working in the university, part-time professors
will get a monthly allowance of 15,000 (RMB) and enjoy the same
scientific research conditions, housing and other material benefits
as specially invited professors.

Medicine
A brief introduction The School
of Aviation and Aerospace Medicine and Nautical Medicine is a PLA as
well as a state key discipline, with a PLA key laboratory attached
to it. At present, the school has undertaken 15 military and
national research projects and has made a series of important
scientific achievements in aviation and aerospace medicine and
military medical psychology.

pilots, pilots’ disorientation and counteractive measures against

Gastroenterology
A brief
introduction The Department of Gastroenterology is a state
key discipline. It is also the PLA Institute of Digestive Diseases,
with a PLA key laboratory and a Sino-Japan International Endoscopy
Training Center attached to it. The department has made some
internationally recognized achievements in the study of
gastrointestinal tumors, and in particular the carcinogenesis,
metastasis, multiple drug resistance (MDR) and vaccine of gastric
cancers. The leading scientist of the discipline is Prof. FAN
Daiming, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Major research areas and
objective clone full-length genes of the discovered
gastric cancer-related antigens and the MDR-related molecules in
order to study the regulatory mechanisms of these genes;
develop a set of serological methods suitable for
clinical diagnosis of early gastric cancers by consummating the
established immune-PCR system;
clarify the physiological functions or pathological
roles of the gastric cancer-related antigens and the MDR-relevant
molecules, and based on this, find one or two new approaches to
immunotherapy or gene therapy for gastric cancers.

Neurobiology
A brief
introduction The Department of Neurobiology is a state key
discipline. It is also the Institute of Neurosciences of PLA, with
Prof. Ju Gong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as
the director of the department and the institute. The department
consists of research sections in the study of neuromorphology,
ultrastructure, neurophysiology, cellular and molecular
neurobiology, and neuroimmunomodulation. It also has a laboratory of
transgenic animals. It is one of the research institutes with the
strongest comprehensive capacity in neurobiology in China. The
number of international citations of published academic papers by
its researchers reaches 2000 times, leading in the institutes or
departments of neurobiology in China.

Human Anatomy and Histology and
Embryology
A brief introduction The
Department of Human Anatomy and Histology and Embryology is a state
key discipline, with the K. K. Leung Brain Research Center attached
to it. In the past 20 years, the department has made some remarkable
achievements in the systematic study of neuroanatomy and
neuroscience based on the main scientific research project of
“Neural Basis of the Mechanisms Underlying Antinociception”. The
department boasts 16 laboratories in 5 fields, namely, morphology,
imaging, electrophysiology, neuropharmacology and molecular
neurobiology. All of the laboratories are well equipped with
advanced facilities worth totally 10 million (RMB).

Orthopedic Surgery
A brief introduction The
Department of Orthopedic Surgery is a state key discipline. It is
also the Orthopedic Institute of PLA and the Bone Tumor Institute of
PLA, with two PLA key laboratories attached to it. Its researches in
recombinant bone xenografting,treatment of late peripheral nerve
injury, replantation of severely damaged fingers, and treatment of
bone tumor have held a leading position in China and some of them

A brief introduction The
Department of Pathology is a state key discipline, with a PLA key
laboratory attached to it. The department has focused its researches
on the mechanism of carcinogenesis and orientation diagnosis and
therapy of cancer over a long period of time. At present, it has
undertaken one state key “863” project, one key engineering “1035”
project and one key project supported by the National Natural
Science Foundation of China. The department is now responsible for
15 research projects supported by the provincial, ministerial or
national natural science foundation of China. Sufficient funds and

Neurosurgery
A brief introduction The
Department of Neurosurgery is a state key discipline and also the
Neurosurgical Institute of PLA and the Minimally Invasive
Neurosurgical Center of PLA, with the editorial department of
Chinese Journal of Neurosurgical Disease Research attached to it.
The department focuses its researches on the mechanism and treatment
of severe head injury, the application of new skills to tumor
diagnosis and treatment of craniocerebral nervous system, minimally
invasive neurosurgery and microelectrode navigated stereoractic
surgery for Parkinson’s disease, some of which have held a leading
position in China and have reached the world’s advanced level. The
department has strong comprehensive capacity, advanced facilities
and sufficient funds for scientific research.
Major research areas and objective
research into the role of signal transduction system in
the development of traumatic brain edema at inter-cellular,
inter-molecular and inter-genic levels;
search for new ways for the regeneration and repair of
central nervous system injury;
develop 1 or 2 new drugs which can effectively inhibit
the development of traumatic brain edema;
establish at least 2 effective methods for gene therapy
of brain tumor through the study of the pathogenesis of brain glioma

Infectious
Diseases
A brief
introduction The Department of Infectious Diseases is a
state key discipline and also the Diagnosis and Treatment Center of
Infectious Diseases of PLA and a key medical discipline of Shaanxi
Province. The department has focused its research on the diagnosis,
treatment of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), chronic
viral hepatitis, severe hepatitis, hepatitis cirrhosis and other
severe infectious diseases, some of which have held a leading
position in China and have reached the world’s advanced level.
Major research areas and
objective HFRS: research into the pathogenesis, gene
diagnosis and therapy of severe complications of HFRS; establish a
laboratory and etiologic method for the quick diagnosis of HFRS
through the research on the receptor of Hantaviruses and
immunological mechanism;
Hepatitis: research into the pathogenesis, gene therapy
and DNA vaccines of hepatitis; study and devise some new anti-HBV,
anti-HCV treatments and develop some new anti-hepatitis drugs;
improve and perfect the existing artificial liver support system for
liver failure;.
AIDS: standardize and establish the best anti-HIV
