Library

The Library of the Air Force Medical University (AFMU) was built in 1950 and is located in the ancient city of Xi'an. In 1954, the former Fifth Military Medical University was integrated with AFMU. the fourth military medical university library inherits plenty collections of the eighth route army northwestern regional health school and former Fifth Military Medical University. There are more than 400 kinds of foreign periodicals published before 1949, and the earliest journals collection is American Journal of Medical Science published in 1873, and the earliest Chinese books is historical records made by imperial order in 1739, and the foreign language books is the river Thames in British poetry in 1878.

In 1998, the new library enlarged and reopened at the 1st to 4th floors of the Sci-tech Building, which the area of the premises is about 12,000 square meters. The new library consists of the Acquisition and Cataloging Department, Circulating Reading Department and Periodicals Collection DepartmentTechnical Support Department and Information Consulting Department, including outdated books stack roominglecture hall and two circulating reading room, Chinese and western language periodical reading room and multimedia reading room.

By the end of 2018, the library possesses over 690 thousand paper collections and about 1,000 kinds of current periodicals, 31 databases for biomedical electronic literature, and digital resources such as teaching courseware and audio-visual materials are increasing substantially every year.

A. Abstract Database

1. MEDLINE (Coverage:1946-   )

MEDLINE is the U.S. National Library of Medicine® (NLM) premier bibliographic database that contains more than 25 million references to journal articles in life sciences with a concentration on biomedicine. A distinctive feature of MEDLINE is that the records are indexed with NLM Medical Subject Headings (MeSH®).MEDLINE is A comprehensive source of life sciences and biomedical bibliographic information. A free version of MEDLINE is offered through PubMed.

2. Web of Science(Coverage we can visit :1997-   )

Web of Science (formerly ISI Web of Knowledge) is today's premier research platform for information in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities.  

Users can simultaneously search all the databases ordered on the platform across databases or select one of them for single database retrieval. At present, users of the Air Force Medical University can access the following literature databases :

  SpringerLink is the world's most comprehensive online collection of scientific, technological and medical journals, books and reference works.

The Springer journal collection includes more than 2,500 English-language and close to 200 German-language journals.

1. Duxiu

" Duxiu " is a super-large database composed of massive full-text data and basic information. It provides users with full-text retrieval of book chapters and contents.

2. Thieme E-Book Library

Published by Thieme Publishing House in Germany, covers all basic medical and clinical courses offered by medical colleges.

1. ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Database (PQDT)

As the official offsite dissertations repository for the U.S. Library of Congress, With more than 2.3 million entries, the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) database is the most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses in the world.

1. Springer Protocols

Springer Protocols is the largest database of reproducible laboratory protocols (over 50,000) in biomedicine and life sciences, users can find the right protocol for their lab set-up.

2. Journal of Visualized ExperimentsJoVE

JoVE Video Journal is the leading peer-reviewed, PubMed-indexed video methods journal. The journal publishes experimental techniques in a visual format with detailed text protocols to increase scientific reproducibility and productivity. JoVE’s 2017 impact factor is 1.184.

3. Primal Picture

Primal Pictures 3D human anatomy software is the most complete, detailed and accurate 3D model of human anatomy. Anatomy visuals are accompanied by 3D animations that demonstrate function, biomechanics and surgical procedures. In addition, the core 3D anatomy data are supplemented by clinical videos and text written by some of the world’s leading medical specialists.

NoteExpress is the software tool for publishing and managing bibliographies, citations and references on the Windows and Macintosh desktop.
