The department of pathology and pathophysiology of FMMU is a national priority discipline, a department with the privilege of offering doctorate degree, a station of postdoctoral training program of basic medicine, a priority discipline of national "211" project, a unit of tumor biology national key lab, and a department with "Cheung Kong scholar program" . The faculties of the department are responsible for teaching pathology, pathophysiology to medical students, and several courses of postgraduate training programs. In addition, our faculties are responsible for the daily pathological diagnosis of Xijing hospital, the first affiliated hospital of FMMU. The department has labs with total area of around 1200 m2, with equipments with total value of 12 million Yuan. Our team has 43 people, of which 20 are with titles at or above associate professor, 13 are with titles of lecture or equivalent, and 10 at starting level. Among faculties at or above lectures, 90% are Ph.D degree holders, in addition to their M.D. degree. Thirteen of the faculties have experiences of studying abroad. There are 6 Ph.D degree postgraduate mentors and 5 Master degree postgraduate mentors. In the last five years, our department has taken 69 research projects, including national key research special program, national "973 Plan" projects, national "863 Plan" projects, national natural science foundation projects, international collaboration projects, etc., with a total funding of around 19 million Yuan. Our department is collaborated with many universities at home and abroad including University of Texas, Layola University at Chicago, Nagasaki University of Japan, and Hong Kong University. Our research teams have made important progress in the tumor development, progression, and bioimmunotherapy, published a series of papers in SCI journals including Cancer Immunolgy, Immunotherapy, Gene Therapy, Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, Cancer Biology & Therapy, etc. We have also got 2 national patents.
